Lumo

1. scope and who is responsible

This Privacy Policy applies to the Lumo iOS app, its widget, and the Lumo pages on this website. “Lumo,” “we,” and “us” refer to the app’s operator. For privacy questions or requests, contact anthonyvvza@gmail.com.

Lumo does not require an account, does not sell personal information, and does not use advertising SDKs to build a profile about you.

2. information stored on your device

Lumo stores the information needed to personalise and operate the app locally on your device. Depending on how you use it, this can include:

  • Your first name and onboarding answers, such as self-reported AI experience, learning reason, interests, and daily goal.
  • Lesson progress, answers, scores, XP, streaks, hearts, gems, achievements, completed lessons, and daily activity.
  • Your tutor conversation history and the count used to apply the free daily tutor limit.
  • Stories you have opened or read, plus cached AI Daily stories and model-feed context.
  • Preferences for sound effects, GPT read-aloud, automatic reading, and notifications.
  • A small progress summary shared with the Lumo home-screen widget through Apple’s app-group storage.

Lumo currently has no account or cloud-sync system. This means we generally cannot view, recover, or transfer your local progress, and reinstalling the app may remove it.

3. tutor, explanations, and GPT read-aloud

When you send a message to Lumo or request an AI explanation, Lumo sends your message, relevant lesson context, and a short learner summary to the OpenAI API. The summary can include your first name, self-reported level, learning reason, interests, completed-lesson count, and streak so the response can be pitched appropriately.

When you tap a read-aloud button or enable automatic read-aloud, the relevant lesson or question text is sent to the OpenAI API to generate Lumo’s AI voice. The resulting audio may be held temporarily in app memory to avoid regenerating the same clip during that app session.

Do not put sensitive or confidential information in tutor messages. OpenAI processes API inputs and outputs under its own service terms, privacy commitments, retention settings, and legal obligations. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models by default unless the API customer opts in.

4. AI Daily and public feeds

When AI Daily refreshes, Lumo retrieves public RSS or Atom feeds from AI labs, technology publishers, researchers, and other public sources. Those source servers can receive ordinary network information such as your IP address, request time, and user-agent information.

Lumo sends selected public headlines and source metadata to OpenAI to create short educational context. It does not send your tutor conversation or personal profile for that summary. Headlines, links, generated context, and read status can be cached locally on your device.

5. subscriptions and purchase information

Apple processes payment for Lumo Plus. RevenueCat helps the app load available products, confirm entitlement status, restore purchases, and keep paid access in sync.

Apple and RevenueCat may process product identifiers, transaction or receipt data, subscription status, expiry information, storefront, app-user or installation identifiers used for entitlement management, device/app information, and related diagnostics. Lumo does not receive your full card or bank details.

6. website and support information

If you email support, we receive the email address, message, attachments, and technical details you choose to provide. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, or unnecessary personal information.

This website is hosted through Vercel and uses Vercel Analytics. Hosting and analytics services may process technical information such as IP address, browser or device type, referring page, requested URL, approximate location derived from IP, and event time to deliver, secure, and understand use of the site.

7. why information is used

  • Provide lessons, quizzes, progress, reminders, and the widget.
  • Personalise Lumo’s explanations and generate requested tutor replies or speech.
  • Retrieve, organise, and explain recent AI headlines.
  • Apply free-use limits and provide or restore Lumo Plus access.
  • Respond to support, diagnose errors, maintain reliability, prevent misuse, and secure the service.
  • Meet legal obligations and enforce the Terms of Service.

Where applicable, processing is based on providing the service you request, your consent or device permissions, legitimate interests in operating and securing Lumo, and legal obligations.

8. service providers and external services

  • Apple provides app distribution, device storage and app-group frameworks, notifications, In-App Purchase billing, subscription management, and refunds.
  • OpenAI generates tutor responses, requested explanations, speech audio, and educational context for public AI headlines. Read OpenAI’s API privacy information.
  • RevenueCat processes purchase and entitlement information so Plus access can be offered and restored. Read RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel hosts this website and provides website analytics and infrastructure logs.
  • Public news publishers and feed hosts serve the articles, RSS/Atom feeds, and external pages shown through AI Daily.

These providers may process information in countries other than your own. Their own privacy terms and legal obligations govern their processing.

9. storage and retention

Local learner data remains on your device until you delete it in Lumo, uninstall the app, or iOS removes app data. Cached content can be replaced or cleared as the app refreshes. In-memory speech audio is not intended as a permanent recording library.

Apple, OpenAI, RevenueCat, Vercel, feed providers, and email services retain information according to their own settings, contracts, security needs, and legal requirements. Support messages are kept as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, maintain support records, prevent abuse, or comply with law.

10. your controls and choices

  • AI tutor: do not send a message if you do not want its text and learner context processed by OpenAI.
  • GPT voice: switch off read-aloud buttons and auto-read in Lumo Settings, or simply do not tap the speaker control.
  • Notifications: disable reminders in Lumo or change notification access in iOS Settings.
  • Local data: choose “delete all data” in Lumo Settings to remove progress, onboarding answers, tutor history, and cached stories from the app.
  • Subscription: manage or cancel through your Apple Account. Deleting app data does not cancel billing.
  • External articles: do not open an AI Daily link if you do not want to visit the publisher’s website.

11. privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability; withdraw consent; or complain to a data-protection authority. Exceptions can apply.

Most Lumo information exists only on your device, so we may not possess or be able to retrieve it. Apple controls Apple Account and purchase records. To make a request about information we control, email anthonyvvza@gmail.com. We may need limited information to verify and complete the request.

12. children

Lumo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use the app and make purchases only with a parent or guardian’s permission. Contact us if you believe a child submitted information improperly.

13. security and international processing

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted HTTPS connections and Apple platform protections. No app, network, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Service providers can process information from infrastructure located outside your country, subject to their safeguards and applicable transfer rules.

14. updates and contact

We may update this policy as Lumo or its providers change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be communicated where required by law.
