This Privacy Policy explains how Smile Lock collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Smile Lock mobile app and related services.
Smile Lock helps you protect selected apps with Apple Screen Time controls and asks for a real smile before temporarily unlocking them. Some features use AI to score a smile, personalize the app, and summarize your smile activity.
1. Data we collect
Depending on how you use Smile Lock, we may process:
- Profile inputs: your name, apps or feeds you say take your time, estimated scroll time, joy sources, and personal goals.
- Protected app selections: Apple Screen Time tokens, selected app/category labels, lock groups, shield status, grace sessions, and related settings.
- Camera and smile data: photos captured for smile checks, smile scores, face-detection results, AI-generated reactions, and smile analysis dimensions such as warmth, joy, energy, authenticity, and glow.
- Smile history: unlock attempts, timestamps, success status, the app or lock group being unlocked, recent AI judge messages, and saved local smile moments.
- Screen Time and usage data: Apple Device Activity information shown in the app, protected-app usage summaries, shield-trigger counts, and session timing.
- On-device app data: onboarding status, personal plan, notification preferences, app settings, cached joy summaries, and local diagnostics needed to keep Screen Time extensions working.
- Subscription status: entitlement, transaction, and renewal status used to provide Smile Lock Pro access for weekly or yearly subscriptions where offered.
- Support messages: information you choose to send when contacting support.
2. How we use data
- Verify that a real smile is present before unlocking selected apps.
- Create smile scores, reactions, personal plans, and joy summaries.
- Apply, remove, and restore Apple Screen Time shields for apps or categories you choose.
- Show smile history, protected-app activity, streaks, insights, and local saved smile moments.
- Send optional local notifications that help complete an unlock flow or remind you about protected apps.
- Enable, validate, restore, and manage Smile Lock Pro subscription access where subscriptions are offered.
- Improve reliability, troubleshoot issues, prevent abuse, enforce limits, and provide support.
3. Who data is shared with
We do not sell personal data. We share limited data with providers only as needed to operate the app:
- OpenAI: may receive smile-check photos, profile context, recent judge messages, smile logs, and related prompts needed to score smiles or generate personal app text.
- Apple: handles App Store distribution, Apple Screen Time and Family Controls permissions, Device Activity reports, notifications, In-App Purchase billing, subscriptions, refunds, and operating-system permissions.
- Email and support providers: may process support messages you send to us.
4. AI smile analysis
Smile Lock uses AI to evaluate smile photos and generate short reactions or personal summaries. AI output may be inaccurate, inconsistent, incomplete, or unexpected. Smile scores and reactions are for personal habit-building and entertainment; they are not medical, mental health, biometric identity, employment, or safety advice.
You control when you take a smile-check photo. Do not use Smile Lock to capture someone else's face without permission.
5. Local storage and retention
Profile data, lock groups, unlock attempts, smile photos, personal plans, cached summaries, and settings are stored primarily on your device. Smile photos saved in the app are stored locally and are removed when you delete your Smile Lock data or uninstall the app.
Data sent to OpenAI, Apple, or support providers may be processed and retained according to their policies and the technical needs of the service. Support emails may be retained as needed to respond, keep records, and handle disputes.
6. Permissions and controls
- Camera: used to capture a photo for smile checks. You can change camera access in iOS Settings.
- Screen Time and Family Controls: used to select apps/categories and apply shields. You can revoke access in iOS Settings.
- Notifications: used for optional unlock alerts and reminders. You can change notification access in iOS Settings.
- Subscriptions: weekly and yearly Smile Lock Pro subscriptions can be managed or canceled in your Apple ID subscription settings.
- Delete data: the app's delete/reset option removes local profile, plan, smile history, protected apps, and saved smile photos.
7. No sale of personal data
We do not sell personal data and do not use Smile Lock data for third-party advertising.
8. Security
We use standard safeguards including encrypted network transport. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
9. Children
Smile Lock is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
10. International transfers
Service providers may process data outside your country. This policy applies regardless of processing location.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
